General Conference Images

I’ve enjoyed the flood of inspiring quotes and images posted on popular social media sites following General Conference early this month.   If you’re not following “The LDS Church” or “LDS General Conference” on Twitter I highly recommend it!  These images were created by the LDS Church and shared on Twitter during Conference; just moments after the messages were given.  I thought it would be beneficial to create a collection of the images that could be saved in one place on your computer for use in future lessons.  Aren’t they AWESOME?!

Watch, listen, print or download the Conference messages in their entirety here.

Because of Him

I know that God is Heavenly Father and He loves each one of us.  I know that His Son, Jesus Christ, is our Savior and Redeemer.  I know that Joseph Smith was and is a prophet of God.  He restored the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth and translated the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God.  I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lord’s Church on the earth today, led by a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, who continues to receive revelation from God.  I pray I will have the courage and faith to accomplish the things in which my Father has asked me to, fulfilling His great purpose upon the earth in bringing souls unto Christ.  I pray that you – the readers of this blog – no matter your faith or religious denomination, will also feel of God’s great love for you.  He knows the desires of your heart.  He is with you.  The Holy Ghost speaks to you through your heart and mind when truth is taught.  I have personally felt this sweet assurance countless times in my life, and you will also, as you prayerfully seek the truthfulness of all things.  How miraculous, that through his Son, Jesus Christ, each of us may be forgiven of our sins. How grateful I am for the Savior’s Atonement and sacrifice.  I know that through true repentance we will gain greater peace and happiness in this life, and when the times comes, we will return to our Father in Heaven pure and clean to live in His presence eternally.  I know Jesus Christ lives and I stand as a witness of Him.  All of the blessings in my life, both great and small, are because of Him.  This is my testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Conference Book

I purchased several inexpensive 4×6 photo albums, one for each member of the family, and put them together like this. They fit perfectly with scriptures!

A friend of mine shared this picture with me of her son preparing a talk using the quote cards. It brought a smile to my face and I had to share it!

A friend of mine shared this picture with me of her son preparing a talk using the quote cards. I was inspired by it.  What a great example!  Thanks for sharing, Megan!

God Speaks Through Prophets

People have always had questions.

Why is there so much suffering?

Does life have a purpose?

How can I be a better person?

Find answers through General Conference.

President Uchtdorf teaches that if you think of some questions before general conference, the Lord can speak to you through His prophets and apostles during conference.  As a family or class, discuss what you need to learn, either individually or together.  (For example: How do I strengthen my testimony?  How should I deal with a problem at school?) On a piece of paper or in your journal, write down your questions.  Before conference Check Back!begins, you could think and pray about these questions.  Listen carefully during conference (it may help to take notes).  Then write how the Lord—through Church leaders—answered your questions.  Come listen to living prophets this Saturday and Sunday, April 5th & 6th.  Watch online (LDS.org, YouTube, Mormon Channel, BYUtv) or at a local meeting house.

Consider printing the following conference activities to help your children stay engaged and listening during conference: General Conference Notebook, Conference Squares, and Conference Coloring Pages.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, suggests three basic concepts that may help us to better receive, remember, and apply the words spoken by the Lord’s servants during conference:

1. Members of the Church are entitled to personal revelation as they listen to and study the inspired words spoken at general conference.

As you prepare for general conference, I invite you to ponder questions you need to have answered.  For example, you might yearn for direction and guidance by the Lord regarding challenges you are facing.  Answers to your specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific phrase.  At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase, or song.  A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way for personal revelation.

2. Don’t discount a message merely because it sounds familiar.

Prophets have always taught by repetition; it is a law of learning.  You will hear repetition in themes and doctrines in general conference.  Let me reassure you: this is not due to a lack of creativity or imagination.  We continue to hear messages on similar issues because the Lord is teaching and impressing upon our minds and hearts certain foundational principles of great eternal importance that must be understood and acted upon before we can move on to other things.  A wise builder first lays the foundation before erecting the walls and the roof.

3. The words spoken at general conference should be a compass that points the way for us during the coming months.

If we listen to and follow the promptings of the Spirit, they will serve as a Liahona, guiding us through the unknown, challenging valleys and mountains that are ahead (see 1 Nephi 16).  Since the world began, God has raised up prophets who speak the will of heaven to the people of their times.  It is our responsibility to listen and then apply the messages the Lord provides for us.  Our merciful and loving Heavenly Father has not forsaken and will not forsake His children.  Today, as well as in times past, He has appointed apostles and prophets.  He continues to reveal His word to them.  What a marvelous privilege it is to hear God’s messages for each of us during general conference!  Let us prepare well for this great blessing of divine guidance delivered by His chosen servants.

Here is one of my family’s favorite conference traditions.  I prepare this delicious recipe on Saturday evening and refrigerate overnight.  Remove from fridge Sunday morning around 8, let rise, then pop in the oven!  They are hot and sticky just in time for the first session of conference!

Butterscotch Bubble Loaf

18-20 Rhodes pan rolls – cut in half

1 small box butterscotch pudding

½ c. brown sugar

½ c. butter or margarine

½ c. chopped pecans

Spray bundt pan.  Cut semi-thawed Rhodes rolls in half. Dip in dry pudding mix until covered.  Arrange rolls in pan, sprinkling with pecans in between each layer. Sprinkle remaining pudding mix over the top.  In a small saucepan combine brown sugar and butter.  Heat together until butter is melted and a syrup is formed.  (Can microwave for about 1 ½ minutes). Pour over rolls and cover with plastic wrap.  Let raise until double in bulk (2-3 hours).  Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. As soon as you take the rolls out of the oven, loosen the sides of the pan with a knife and invert the pan onto a serving plate.

Have a wonderful conference weekend!
